Born in Toronto Ontario, Cathy Murchison/Krolikowski now calls Point Prim Prince Edward Island home, where her family roots go back many generations to the Selkirk settlers from the Isle of Skye in Scotland, thus the name Kro In The Skye Art Studio. Her art studio and gallery overlook the beautiful Northumberland Strait on ancestral land just a mile from the historical Point Prim Lighthouse where her grandfather was a keeper for 35 years, She finds no shortage of inspiration from the natural surroundings at her doorstep in this breathtaking place she calls home. Cathy has been creating and selling her artwork for over 30 years. She is a self-taught artist and started as a painter and worked in oils until she discovered watercolours which she now favours. Cathy move from Toronto to Palm Beach, Florida after meeting her husband on vacation and lived there for 16 years where they made their home and had two boys. While raising her children she picked up commissions for painting and portraiture. She collaborated with many home designers doing faux fini and mural work through out South Florida. Cathy discovered stained glass after doing design work for a stained glass studio in Lake Park, Florida and was soon teaching classes with the owner. She uses glass in many different ways to create her art. Stained glass and mosaic work that include fused glass and painted kiln fired glass as well as selective cutting techniques allow her to create greater depth and detail. Fused dichroic glass creates unique cabochons to incorporate into her jewellery and other glass work. After moving to the Island she started to make jewellery from sea glass that she has been collecting from the beach here in Point Prim since she was a child. Cathy combines her dichroic cabochons and pieces from her collection of sea glass with semi-precious stone beads, Swarovski crystals and sterling silver findings to create one of a kind treasures. She opened her studio and gallery in 2009. You can visit the studio space where you will find her hard at work Tuesday through Sunday from May 1st to October 31st and look through the gallery where you can purchase something unique and hand crafted.
